• Refreshing the FreeBMD website

The FreeBMD website will be undergoing a revamp over the next few months. The new website, which will run alongside the current one, will be in line with the design used for sister projects FreeCEN and FreeREG.

We want to make sure that it continues to provide the service that family history researchers know and love, whilst possibly incorporating new features that will improve your experience.

We've created a survey for you to let us know how we can best achieve these goals. Click the button below to tell us how and why you use FreeBMD, and what, if any, improvements you would like to see.

  • FreeCEN is Changing

www.freecen.org.uk now takes you to the new-look website (AKA FreeCEN2). You can still visit FreeCEN1, at https://freecen1.freecen.org.uk (there is a link to this site on the home page).

This change is being made to enable two new features for researchers on FreeCEN2.

We're still using your invaluable feedback to improve the new FreeCEN website. Have your say about general items on our feedback form, and let us know how you'd like us to develop the 'birthplace' search feature on this form.

  • Free UK Genealogy: 20 Years of FreeBMD Conference 15th September 2018

FreeBMD is one of the first ever crowdsourcing projects, and 2018 marks 20 years since its inception. It has been extraordinarily useful to researchers since 1998 and is highly regarded in the Genealogy community. We invite you to join us in raising a glass to our oldest project, at our free-to-attend meeting this September.

FreeUKGEN trustees Graham Hart and Alexandra Eveleigh will speak about FreeBMD (Past, Present and Future), and Crowdsourcing respectively. Also speaking at the event are Audrey Collins of The National Archives, on the General Register Office’s (GRO) Records, and Else Churchill from the Society of Genealogists on the subject of Birth, Marriage and Death: Beyond the GRO Registers.
